Name : Lizzie Valentin
Where do you live? San Diego, California
What type of athlete are you? I am a fitness enthusiast who loves to try new workouts and invite my community to get active!
Do you have a day job or are you a professional athlete? I am currently in the influencer marketing space and am the founder of the @sdsweatsquad. We are an inclusive fitness and wellness community for people to join each other for daily, sweaty workouts. I love sharing my love for fitness, health and wellness with my audience.
How long have you been participating in this sport? I have been active almost all of my life. I started with soccer as a child, ran track and cross country in high school and have transitioned to working out at gyms and boutique studios in and around San Diego and Orange County.
Who are your biggest influences? Who do you admire most? I admire my parents the most. They have always been there to support me and teach me the importance of hard work and pursuing what I am passionate about. My biggest influence is Oprah Winfrey. The way she uses her struggles to push and persevere through life is incredible and has taught me that we can use past struggles to our advantage to move forward and succeed.
What is your training regimen? I aim to workout 5-6 times a week. Each week is a little different and I plan my workout the Sunday before to make sure I keep myself accountable. I usually have 1-3 strength days, 1-2 indoor cycling class(es), a run and an odd ball workout (Boxing, Pilates, barre, etc.). I find that changing up my workouts has helped me with my fitness goals when my body is plateauing.
How do you structure your days? I am an early riser and have the most energy during the beginning of my day. I go through my early morning routine then I workout --usually around 6 am. Then I head home freshen up and start my work day by looking at my to-do list and tackling each task in order of how long each takes. I try to get the tasks that take the longest done so I am able to focus on my everyday tasks, such as emails, lunch, walk my dog, etc. after. I find that this helps with my daily productivity.
Do you find your diet to be a crucial part of your lifestyle? If so, what diet tips would you recommend to your followers? Yes, very crucial in fact! I don’t follow any specific diet/fad. I feel my best when I eat what is best for my body which includes cooking every meal with real ingredients. A few tips I recommend to my audience are to stay away from processed foods, hydrate properly and to listen to your body when it’s hungry or craving certain foods.
How do you care for your body and health aside from your sport? I am a huge believer of recovery for my body, especially because I am working out often. I love to go to my favorite local sauna studio to help aid in the recovery of my muscles. I recently incorporated a 15 minute stretch into my daily routine and take a slightly heated restorative recovery class each Sunday which helps me reset mentally and helps my muscles and joints recover.
What is your impression of the PelliTec® Blister Prevention Pad we sent you? How did it add value to you? What did you like about it? PelliTec® couldn't have come into my life at a more perfect time. I am currently training for a 10k and was getting blisters from my training. The PelliTec® Blister Prevention Pads are helping to relieve and prevent blisters on my feet. My first impression of the product was that it has a nice cushion feel it and it was so easy to apply to my shoe. I placed the PelliTec® Blister Prevention Pad where I am most blister prone and I felt instant comfort while running.
Would you recommend PelliTec® Blister Prevention Pads to other athletes? Yes, I would recommend trying this product to other athletes who are looking to prevent or to relieve pain from blisters, or for more cushioned comfort in your footwear. The blister pads are very comfortable and provide extra cushion with its 6 layers of comfort.
What is something that your followers do not know about you, that you find to be very important to your personal lifestyle? I am an open book on Instagram. I’m not sure there isn’t something they don’t know about me at this point and that is what I want. My goal is to be as authentic and relatable as I can with my audience.
What keeps you motivated when you are faced with challenges? Surrounding myself with supportive and positive friends and family is so important to me. When I am faced with challenges, I feel comfortable reaching out to my family and friends for guidance and support. The last couple of years, I have also worked on shifting my mindset. I find that mindset is a huge factor with how we see the world and have found myself to be happier with my mindset shift.
What is one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring athlete? One piece of advice I would give to an aspiring athlete, is to listen to your body! If it is feeling off, take care of it! I am a huge proponent of rest days or active rest days to help my body recover from daily stress and workouts!
