Meet Christina!

Name: Christina Carreira

Where do you live? I live and train in Novi, Michigan

What type of athlete are you? I am a Team USA ice dancer

Do you have a day job or are you a professional athlete? I am a high school student and a professional athlete

How long have you been participating in this sport? I’ve been figure skating for 15 years.

Who are your biggest influences? Who do you admire most? My biggest influence and the people that I admire the most are Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir (they are the current Olympic champions) because they are both incredible athletes, as well as people. They’ve completely revolutionized the world of ice dance by bringing something new every year.

What is your training regimen? I train Monday to Friday. I train on the ice for 3 hours during the high season and 5 hours during the low season. I also train off ice for 1 to 2 hours a day. We either do Ballet, contemporary or workout.

How do you structure your days? I usually wake up at 8:30 AM for 2 hours of school at home. Then I head to the rink where I train from 11 AM to 5 PM. After training, I go back home, have dinner, do homework and go to bed around 11 PM.

Do you find your diet to be a crucial part of your lifestyle? If so, what diet tips would you recommend to your followers? As a figure skater, I always have to be in top shape, which means I have to be very conscious of what I put in my body. I try to eat very healthy for the most part, but once in a while I think it’s important to treat yourself.

How do you care for your body and health aside from your sport? As an athlete, by body is my instrument, so I have to take really good care of it. I regularly get sports massages and I have physio therapy sessions whenever my body needs it. I also make sure to stretch everyday and I always make sure I am warmed up before I get on the ice.

What is your impression of the Silipos Oval Lace Bite we sent you? How did it add value to you? What did you like about it? I really like it! I like that they’re a pretty thin material so they dont take too much space in my skate and I also like how it creates space between my tendon and the tongue of my boot. I do not have any problems right now, but i think this well definitely help prevent lace bites and tendinitis!

Would you recommend the Silipos Active Oval Lace Bite product to other athletes? I would definitely recommend this product to skaters with lace bite or tendinitis. Through the year, I’ve had so many training mates who have had those problems and had to take time off because they did not have anything to help with the pain. Since this is such a common problem, i think every skater should use Silipos.

What is something that your followers do not know about you, that you find to be very important to your personal lifestyle? I don’t think most of my followers know that French is my first language and that I had to learn English when I moved to the US when I was 13.

What keeps you motivated when you are faced with challenges? I’m an extremely competitive person so usually those challenges motivate me to work harder to overcome that challenge.

What is one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring athlete? I think it’s important to any athlete to always believe in themselves, give 100 percent in every training session and to always dream big.
