Meet Joe!

Name: Joe Pietersen

Place you live? San Diego, USA & Cape Town, South Africa

What type of athlete are you? Professional Rugby Player and adventurer

Do you have a day job or are you a professional athlete? I am a professional Rugby Player of 14 years, but also work in conservation tourism in Africa.

How long have you been participating in this sport? I have been playing Rugby from 8 years old and professionally from 19.

What got you excited about athletics? I get excited by any sort of sport with a competitive aspect, where you have to not only challenge your opponent, but yourself. I love when people use boundaries.

What athletes do you look up to? My sporting hero is Lewis Pugh, he is a long distance, cold water endurance swimmer who challenges himself with almost impossible expeditions that creates awareness for the health of our oceans.

What is your training regiment? We train everyday, including gym work and two field sessions. Our games are usually over weekends, so we are basically always busy with rugby. Our weekends are on Wednesdays, as we are working most real weekends.

Describe your perfect day? What does it consist of? Any day where I get to spend the majority of the day outdoors is a win. In California I try to get to the beach as often as I can, but the ideal day is a day out in the wilderness in Africa.

What is your diet like? I have seen the benefits of having a healthy diet over the years and thus has adapted accordingly. I do however enjoy the odd treat and try keep my diet fairly balanced.

How do you care of yourself? My body needs to be physically ready every week for a contact sport, so I make sure to get enough rest (sleep), stretching and time in the ocean.

What what your impression of the Cooling Dermal Pads we sent you? I am a fan of small portable impactful recovery aids, as this can be used anywhere and on the go. I have been super happy with my Silipos pad and will use it during our travels to games on the road.

Would you recommend Silipos products to other athletes? I would recommend Silipos yes, it is a product that adds value to your readiness to compete and it is very portable and usable wherever you go.

What is one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring athlete? Try to improve who you are as an athlete and not necessarily try to be like someone you compete against.
